YOUTH EMPOWERMENT & RETENTION POLICY PILLAR 4:

Youth Exodus: Address Leadership Deficit, Not Patriotism

Challenge: The mass migration of educated youth is often attributed to a lack of opportunities and vision from leadership. Brain drain represents loss of Ghana’s most valuable human capital.

Vision: Counter brain drains by creating a conducive environment where Ghana’s youth can thrive, innovate, and contribute to national development.

Key Policies:

  1. Policy Reforms for Innovation Implement policies that foster innovation and entrepreneurship, ensuring that young people have viable career paths in Ghana. This includes business-friendly regulations and support for startups.
  2. Engagement with Diaspora Create programs that encourage Ghanaians abroad to invest in local ventures and contribute to the national economy. This leverages diaspora capital and expertise.
  3. Youth Empowerment Initiatives Launch mentorship and funding programs aimed at supporting young entrepreneurs. These programs should provide both financial and non-financial support.
  4. Leadership Development Create pathways for youth participation in governance and institutional decision-making.
  5. Opportunity Creation Focus on creating genuine opportunities for youth employment and entrepreneurship, not just motivational rhetoric.

Expected Outcomes:
⦁ Retention of talented youth who can contribute to national development
⦁ A renewed sense of hope and opportunity among the younger generation
⦁ Increased entrepreneurial activity and innovation
⦁ Stronger connection between diaspora and home country
